The second session of the EMEA Edition of the Positive Nutrition Series will start with a fireside chat between Flora Southey, Section Editor at FoodNavigator.com and Alon Chen, CEO and Co-Founder at Tastewise.
We will then continue the session with a presentation from Dr. Ashok Dubey, Senior Scientist and Lead – Nutrition Sciences at Tata Chemicals who will cover Feed your “good” gut microbes: Impact of prebiotics on gut health and immunity
Human intestine’s ability to ferment a wide range of non-digestible oligosaccharides (NDOs) present in the diet is widely established. The human intestinal microbiota encodes multiple critical functions impacting human health, including metabolism of dietary ingredient, prevention of pathogen invasion and immune system modulation.
A healthy diet rich in prebiotics that serve as a food for the good bacteria residing our gut help in maintaining healthy gut. Studies conducted with Fructo oligsaccharides have shown that consumption of prebiotics promotes growth of good-bacteria belonging to taxa Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria. The increased growth of these organisms results in production of lactate and short-chain-fatty-acids. Butyrate is the favoured fuel consumed by coloncytes and emerges out essentially as the tight junction protein regulator in the gut.
We will wrap up with a 45-minute panel discussion and audience Q&A chaired by Flora Southey on From fermentation to fortification: How is industry supporting gut health and immunity?
In a near-post pandemic world, gut health and immunity are front-of-mind. But it’s not all pills and supplements, consumers are increasingly interested in drinking and eating their way to better health. How are food and beverage manufacturers responding to growing demand for vitamins, minerals, and immunity-boosting micronutrients?
What opportunities and challenges do businesses face in leveraging traditional fermentation techniques for contemporary audiences? Join our panel of experts to find out.
