Jean-Christophe Flatin currently leads Mars Edge, the new entrepreneurial segment of Mars, Incorporated dedicated to human nutrition. Mars Edge is partnering with others to create a world where nutrition empowers people to live fuller lives. It is set up to use the latest science, data and technology to create easy, enjoyable and tailored nutrition solutions that are a seamless part of everyday lives and deliver measureable benefits. He is a member of the Mars Leadership Team and reports to Grant F. Reid, Office of the President. Since 2018, Flatin has also led Science, Technology and Innovation for all of Mars. On behalf of the Mars Leadership Team, he leads the transversal innovation agenda across the business and has oversight of Quality & Food Safety, Science & Regulatory Affairs, as well as the Mars Advanced Research Institute (MARI) charged with keeping Mars on the cutting edge of trends in science and technology, and translating our research into breakthrough growth opportunities. Flatin’s career with Mars spans more than two decades. His personal passion for innovation and exploring new business models, as well as uncharted territories, can be seen throughout his career at Mars. He joined Mars in 1992 as Trade Expenditures Controller for Masterfoods France. In 2000, he became CFO of EBLY, one of the company’s first acquisitions within Europe, and led its integration into the Food business. For the next 12 years, he focused on pets, moving to Royal Canin in 2002 as Financial Integrator, Global Commercial Director, CFO, and, in 2007, Global President. While at Royal Canin, Flatin led his team to become one of the fastest-growing business units in the Mars portfolio, more than doubling the business during his tenure. A highly valued member of the Global Petcare Management Team, he spearheaded e-commerce for the entire company, opening the door to a prime retail channel for all segments. Most recently, Flatin was President of Mars Global Chocolate. As the leader of more than 17,000 Global Chocolate Associates, Jean-Christophe was responsible for setting the global agenda, pursuing talent development, prioritizing strategies, and clarifying the activities to deliver continued Chocolate growth around the world. Flatin has a master’s degree in management from ESCP Europe, having studied in France, the U.K. and Germany. A native of France, he also speaks fluent English and German. Flatin and his wife Nadia have two sons, Thibault and Guillaume. He enjoys an active lifestyle which includes skiing, tennis, surfing and competing in semi-marathons. To relax, he reads novels and spends sporty holidays with his family.
